There is no better time to work in local government public health and this role will provide a fantastic opportunity to join our team at a pivotal time. This new post has been established to support our expanding health protection responsibilities and the local response to Covid-19 and other communication disease outbreaks.
The successful applicant will work with a range of public and private sector agencies and will be involved in the prevention, surveillance, investigation and control of infection, environmental hazards and other components of health protection within the community.
Working within a growing, multi-disciplinary team the postholder will take part in the rota for delivering the local health protection response, replying to a range of notifications, enquiries and incidents, providing health protection advice to other health professionals, colleagues, partners, elected representatives and members of the public.
The Senior Health Protection Practitioner will have a leadership role supporting the Health Protection Programme Manager and Consultant in Public Health to ensure the team work collaboratively and effectively in the management of incidents and outbreaks of infectious and non-infectious environmental hazards. They will also contribute to the provision of specialist advice and support to stakeholders in the local community and work alongside Public Health England and other key stakeholders such as infection control leads and Environmental Health Officers.
The successful candidate must demonstrate energy and a can-do attitude at a time when things are constantly changing and evolving rapidly. Resilience and flexibility will therefore be key strengths.
These posts are predominantly office-based and most of the time will be spent using a computer and a telephone. However owing to COVID-19, staff are currently being supported to work from home, so it is essential that applicants are able to work from home. Some out of hours work may also be required dependent on the needs of the required local health protection response.
